With the arrival of the summer and the high temperatures, Madrid residentes and visitors miss the beach. What some people do not know is that Madrid has several natural pools and beautiful interior beaches, that help (a lot!) to cope with the summer’s heat.

Natural pools of Rascafría

The presillas of Rascafría are natural pools located in El Paular Valley. Its location, at the foothills of the Sierra de Guadarrama, enjoys spectacular views of Peñalara Peak. Even if you do not want to take a bath, it is worth visiting this natural area.

The pools are surrounded by large green areas and a beautiful environment. The entrance to the natural pools is free, and the parking costs 5 € per car/day.

The green Pond in ‘La Pedriza’

Within the Regional Park of the Upper Basin of the Manzanares and Guadarrama National Park, we find la Pedriza, one of the most beautiful natural areas of Madrid. The Green Pond is a great natural pool that is part of the Manzanares River, and is one of the favorite places for locals to cool off during the summer. Its spectacular environment and its proximity to Madrid (only 49km) attracts many visitors. Access to vehicles is limited, so if you can go from Monday to Friday, ¡much better!, therefore you’ll find fewer visitors.


Natural Pools ‘Las Berceas’, Cercedilla 

Located in Cercedilla, in the Sierra of Madrid, the natural pools of Las Berceas, are ideal for going with family, accompanied by the little ones who will have a great time. The natural pools are surrounded by a beautiful pine forest, and have enabled numerous facilities such as public toilets, changing rooms, bar and nursing. Ideal for spending a nice family day.

The entrance fee to Las Berceas is 5.50 € on weekdays, and 6.5 € for weekends and holidays.

The pools are open until September 4th, from 10:00 to 20: 00h.


Pools Riosequillo, Buitrago de Lozoya

These pools are located in the municipality of Buitrago de Lozoya, 74 km from Madrid, in the recreation area Riosequillo (river Lozoya). This area, along the reservoir, has one of the largest pools of Madrid, with 4.400m2 surface, and capacity for 2,000 people. The pools are surrounded by wide green spaces, many shaded areas for sun protection, and have several facilities to practice different sports such as basketball, cycling, football …

The entrance fee is 2.50€ on weekdays, and 3€ on weekends and holidays. On Mondays it is closed.


San Juan’s Beach

San Juan Marsh is located 70 km from Madrid, in the municipality of San Martin de Valdeiglesias, and is known as the beach of Madrid. It has 14 kilometers of beaches where you can practice motorized water activities, and other water sports such as water skiing or wakesurf. Its idyllic setting, surrounded by pine trees, makes this place the favorite one of locals and tourists, to cool off during the summer in Madrid.


The Alberche Beach

We end up our list of natural pools and interior beaches with the Alberche beach, just 53 km away from Madrid. This beach, located in the town Aldea del Fresno, borns from the union of the Alberche, Perales, and Berciana rivers. The river course is surrounded by trees and green areas, providing shade for bathers. It also has wide esplanades of sand to place the towel and the umbrella, and has kiosk, picnic area … in short, all the services you need to enjoy a relaxing day in the “beach”.

Access to Alberche beach is free, and the parking costs 2 €.
